Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa – warm greetings to everyone
Welcome to week 3 of term 2. We have had a very busy week with lots of new and exciting things happening. Read on to find out more…
Committees:
Here are some updates on what has been happening in the last week…
Uniform committee:
As a follow up from last year’s community survey where there was a definite favour for a uniform, a committee has been set up to investigate further. The BOT have created a ‘term of reference’ for the committee to operate under and I have an enthusiastic group of mums out getting samples. This is step one in the process and the community still will have the option of voting against before we decide to proceed.
Hui:
I met with a group of 7 whanau about te Reo/tikanaga and catering to the needs of our Maori students. This group was passionate and are keen to see a better pathway in Reporoa for children starting school from the kohanga. They are passionate about all things Maori and have agreed to be an advisory group to the principal going forward. I am so excited about this! The group have agreed to meet monthly and as the name ‘whanau group’ is already taken, they are brainstorming something really inspiring to call themselves. Erueti Rakena attended and is going to help the group moving forward. My MOE advisor, Sale, is keen to attend the next meeting too.
Whanau Group:
We had lots of new members attend our last meeting. The vibe was so positive and inspiring. Loads of ideas and a very passionate team. It was great– I can’t wait to see what is next for our school!
Breakfast club:
Not a committee – but started last week and is going very well. The purpose of filling the bellies of those children who come to school hungry so that they can focus better and learn is being met. There is no discrimination here – all children welcome. Yes, some children who have had breakfast attend as they love the positive social start to the day too. Big thanks to Whaea Kathy (student teacher) for helping Puti out too!
Communication:
There has been some concern about communicating things at late notice lately. Sometimes this is unavoidable as sometime we get the information late – it has a snowball effect. However, we are listening and making an effort to give you better warning about things coming up. Our main methods of communication is through this newsletter, facebook and our school app. Please make sure you check these avenues to find out first. We need the community to take some responsibility for finding the information that we have sent.
If you have the school app you get messages sent in real time. For example you would have received a message on Wednesday morning saying the cross country in on. See the bottom of this newsletter for the updated app.
The newsletter is always on the website if you missed the email or facebook link.
Please make sure we have your correct email address and phone number too.
Stars of the week:
Ka Rawe te mahi (awesome work) to Hoani for making some very impressive gains in his maths test.
Thank You…
to Whaea Rachel and Whaea Debs for braving a junior sleep over on Friday night. The children were amazing and had such a great team building experience!
Sports:
Kia ora Whanau!
Another busy week in sports! Here’s whats going on…..
FELL CUP
This will be the first year in many that Reporoa Primary School will be taking part in the Fell Cup! Unfortunately we did not get enough numbers from the Middle end of the school to form netball and rugby teams. We are taking our Saturday morning netball team and a senior rugby team. I appreciate the support to organise these teams for the competition as word came to me last Thursday!
Good luck to our Senior Rugby and Netball teams! Go hard!
NETBALL:
Special mention to the Netball whanau and children at the recent Saturday Netball game!!!! Despite the pouring rain, the Netball girls displayed their REPS hard! RESPECT-They played hard but showed respect to their opposition and umpires, ENGAGED-When I arrived Belinda and the team were warming up, with ball skills in the pouring rain, every child was listening to Belinda and engaged in their warm up activities, POSITIVE- the other team’s coach turned up right before the team was to take the court and they didn’t have enough players, our team players offered to play for the other team (so the girls there got a game) STRIVING-despite the terrible conditions, they played on with big smiles on their faces and tried their best! Well done girls!
