Korero from the Principal:

Kia ora koutou,

I am absolutely bursting with pride as I reflect on the outstanding performance of our tamariki at the Reporoa Cultural Festival on Friday. Our kapa haka group truly shone on stage, delivering a performance that was both powerful and moving. Their hard work, dedication, and passion were evident in their waiata, haka, and poi, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to be there.

I want to extend my thanks to the incredible kapa haka leaders. Their strong leadership and commitment were key to the success of both performances. A special thanks to Matua Grant for his tutorage and to our dedicated staff, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. From organising practices to coordinating logistics on the day, your hard work did not go unnoticed. We are so fortunate to have such a supportive and passionate team.

It was also heartwarming to see so many parents and whānau in attendance, supporting our tamariki and celebrating their achievements. Your presence meant the world to them and contributed to the exciting atmosphere of the day.

Our tamariki were absolutely buzzing after their performance, and it’s clear that this experience has been a highlight for them. The festival was a thoroughly enjoyable day for everyone involved, and it was wonderful to see our Reporoa community come together in such a meaningful way.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who played a part in making this day a success. Together, we have shown the true spirit of our school, and I couldn’t be more proud.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Richelle McDonald, Principal

Star of the week:

Ka rawe te mahi to James, Johnny and Fletcher for stepping up to be in the front row of our Kapa Haka performance on Friday because some senior boys did not attend. We are so proud of you and admire your willingness to step up and have a go! What amazing future leaders!

Also a big ka pai to Oscar for his writing progress and Arabella and Elsie for their maths art using coordinates. Very clever!

Farewell:

Last week we said goodbye to Abbey Ployblank. Abbey has been a wonderful help to us in the office in the afternoons and in the library and in junior classes in the morning. She has moved into another job outside of education. We have appreciated Abbey’s friendly face and kind nature. She will be missed by staff and students in our kura!

Best of luck for your future endeavours Abbey!

Office Hours:

The office is open between 8:30am and 1pm. Please make all requests between these hours. Any bus changes in the afternoon need to be made via the school cell phone 027 660 2281 please. The landline is not manned in the afternoon for the rest of the term. Thank you in advance for your help.

Planting:

Over the last couple of weeks our students have been planting a mix of veggies, flowers and herbs. The students are enjoying watching their seedlings germinate, taking great care to water them and give them sunshine each day. It is great to hear the conversations between our students about their planting experiences at home and the delicious recipes they enjoy eating with the vegetables they have chosen to grow.

We are looking to sell these seedlings at Pet Day this year in Term 4 to fundraise money towards our 2025 camps. We will be in touch with a flyer closer to the time.

Office Staff:

We are sad to inform the community that our most valuable staff member and the person who keeps the school running smoothly, Maureen Johansen (Mrs J), has decided to retire from her position as office manager at the end of this year. We are very fortunate to have plenty of time to process this news and to plan for her replacement as her wealth of knowledge is vast!

OFFICE MANAGER POSITION:

After 30+ years with us, our wonderful Maureen is retiring at the end of 2024. We want to employ a new office manager to work alongside her for term 4 and learn the ropes before flying solo in 2025.

If you are friendly, welcoming, an awesome administrator with top notch digital skills, love children and want to work in a supportive team with wonderful staff, this might be the job for you!

Please send your cv to [email protected]

Sports:

Hockey

And that’s a wrap for our Reporoa Pukeko’s 2024 Season with the best result we have seen in years, placing 4th overall. Our hockey team was coached by Kate Bowron and Duncan Wills and Managed by Sarah Martelli. The final game saw the teams tied up at the full time whistle, so overtime it was. A very close battle saw the opposing team score the final point during overtime. We are all very proud of the team this year, we had a mix of year levels and for a couple of students, it was their first year. Awesome work team!
