Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa – warm greetings to everyone
Welcome to week 8 of term 2. The rain is settling in and it looks like it will be an inside week!
Science:
You might have noticed that your child has been talking about science this term. Our curriculum concept is “change” and we are looking at how properties of matter change from one state to another. The children are describing, sequencing and predicting about the changes in matter. The most popular activity around change has been making slime and ubleck! Have a go at home!
Uniform:
The uniform committee will have a range of samples available for you to look at and vote on in the last week of school. They will be available in the library for you to vote on your preferences. No uniform will still be a voting option. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR VOICE!
Special Visitor:
On Monday my Aunty (Val Mills) will be visiting us in assembly. She had her very first teaching post at Reporoa Primary School in 1968. That’s 50 years ago! If you know anyone that was at the school at that time, she would love to meet you! You would have known her as Miss Toye.
PET DAY!
Matariki!
We are planning a matariki visit to Matarae marae on the last day of this term – more information to follow. We need to start collecting these resources and will take any donations at the office…
Newspaper, Wallpaper, Glitter, Bamboo stick, Gad wrap, Tin foil, Masking tape, Coloured rubber bands, Confetti, Rice, Cardboard, String/Nylon, Coloured beads, Plastic cups, Shells/buttons, Straws, Eyes, Coloured ice-block sticks, Ribbon, Pom Poms, Feathers, Material, Magazines, Cotton Wool, Wool, Ice-cream containers and lids.
Reporting to parents:
You may be aware that at the end of last year the Labour Government announced the end of National Standards in the education system. This change does not effect the reporting to parents twice a year. Your child’s report will come home on Friday the 29th June. The National Standards wording has been removed from the report and we have added an Oral Language section, as this is our focus for improvement this year through our teaching inquiries.
The following week, week 10, we will be running our SLC’s (Student Learning Conferences).
SLC’s will be held on
Tuesday 03 July 2018 3:30 – 5:30pm
and
Thursday 05 July 2018 1:30 – 6:30pm
(Please note, classes will not be in session on the Thursday afternoon, please make arrangements for your children so that teachers can conduct their SLC’s. Classes will finish at 12:40)
