Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa – warm greetings to everyone
Welcome to week 6 of term 2. A big thank you to the families who came to school to support us with our powhiri on Monday to welcome the ERO team. Don’t forget the whanau/parent meeting with ERO in the whanau room at 2pm today!
Family Rituals:
It’s sometimes difficult to distinguish between rituals and routines. According to psychologist Barbara H. Fiese, rituals symbolically communicate the idea that “this is who we are” as a group, providing continuity in meaning across generations. Routines, on the other hand, are a way of communicating, “This is what needs to be done.” For example, in my family when my boys were younger, we always had a ‘best and worst of the day’ debrief. This was a great way to teach positive thinking and resilience with whatever challenges they faced. Here are some cool family ritual ideas for you to try!

Reporting to parents:
You may be aware that at the end of last year the Labour Government announced the end of National Standards in the education system. This change does not effect the reporting to parents twice a year. Your child’s report will come home on Friday the 29th June. The National Standards wording has been removed from the report and we have added an Oral Language section, as this is our focus for improvement this year through our teaching inquiries.
The following week, week 10, we will be running our SLC’s (Student Learning Conferences).
SLC’s will be held on
Tuesday 02 July 2018 3:30 – 5:30pm
and
Thursday 04 July 2018 1:30 – 6:30pm
(Please note, classes will not be in session on the Thursday afternoon, please make arrangements for your children so that teachers can conduct their SLC’s. Classes will finish at 12:40)

Cyber Safety Agreement:
Due the the changing nature of our digital use at school, we are updating our cyber safety agreement. Please read and sign the letter that came home last week, then return it to your child’s classroom teacher. As of next term, a signed agreement will need to be in place to use the digital tools at Reporoa Primary School.
You may click on the link below to access another copy if required.
Stars of the week:
Ka Rawe te mahi (awesome work) to the Thursday Techie Team. We are making music with scratch by coding the computer. Next we will use ‘makey makey’ to control the music making!
