Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa – warm greetings to everyone
Welcome to week 2 of term 2. We have had a great week settling into school and are enjoying our science. This term our REPS focus is engaged.
Attendance:
This graphic is an eye opening guide to the effect of absence on our children who miss a lot of school. Please make sure your child attends school to get the education they need to succeed.
The Breakfast club:
A big thank you to Puti for getting this project underway. See the office or Puti if you would like to donate anything to assist in filling our kids tummies so that they can start the day learning! We are in need of toast bread, butter and spreads to start with. All welcome.
REPS:
This term we are looking at “ENGAGED” as part of our REPS. In assembly I spoke about being engaged and likened it to ‘GRIT’ as outlined in this poster. It is important that we help our children to learn to persevere when things get hard and stay engaged on a task until they master it. I like to say “If it’s easy, it’s probably not worth it.” The satisfaction and pride in a job well done comes when we achieve something that required effort and perseverance.
As part of our REPS, we have to manage behaviour from time to time. We have policies around behaviour management and also physical restraint. They can be found by clicking on the link in our website page called ‘Policies and Procedures’. The UBRS (Understanding Behaviour, Responding Safely) training that the staff had in the holidays addressed this topic.
Stars of the week:
Ka Rawe te mahi (awesome work) to Felix and Sam for their awesome science writing and to Marley for her cool blog post. You can check out Room 6’s blog posts under their class page on our website!
Thank You…
to Puti for setting up the breakfast club. We have enjoyed hot milo and weetbix or toast this week!
Sports:
Kia ora Whanau!
Rotorua Mini Marathon
Wow! Fantastic turn out Reporoa! This year they had 2,500 children participating! Congratulations to Reegan Brennan and Ruby Martelli who won spot prizes! Although there were no times, I was impressed with how fast RJ Katene ran! Wow! That kid can go! Looking forward to seeing him race in our Cross Country!
RIPPA RUGBY TEAMS (Wednesday 6th June)
After the trial last week, we have selected the two Rippa Rugby teams. Please note that some senior children did not trial as the ripper rugby tournament is on the SAME DAY as their Hillary Pursuit. Practises will be held Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes.

REP WHANAU vs REP TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
Reminder, it’s on this Friday 11th May, our game is Netball. As Friday is our lunch order day, why not order or bring your lunch down and eat with your child/children! While you’re here, feel free to pop into their class and check out recent work! 🙂
Game for next Friday the 18th – T-ball! I had a lot of parents say, I haven’t played Netball in years, I won’t be good, so next week, our game is T-ball! If you can swing a bat, and hit a ball (which is on a T-ball stand! SO not even thrown!), you can play! Go on! DO IT!
SHOUT OUTS FOR LAST WEEK:
Sports is a HUGE job and it’s on-going! Those of you who know me, will realise I have other responsibilities in the school as well as (teaching the best) class in the school! So I rely heavily on whanau support. Parents involvement in schools helping out with sports is diminishing across New Zealand. I’ve experienced this through out all the schools I’ve taught in (from Orewa down to Invercargill). The whanau at Reporoa have come on board and continue to support me, but more importantly the tamariki of our school. So I’ve got to recognise these whanau in our weekly shout outs!
BELINDA COX & KERERA HOHUA – Coaching and training our Netball girls.
OLIVIA PHILLIPS. – For helping with the Rippa Rugby trials.
JOHN GUYTON – For helping with the Rippa Rugby trials.
JUSTIN PHILLIPS. – For offering to train our Rippa Rugby teams.
CRYSTAL VANNER. – For coaching our Senior Basketball team.
JOLENE GUYTON. – For sorting the children’s sports uniforms, pumping up and providing teams with balls, dishing out and collecting in sports tops for the mini-marathon.
Wow! Lots going on! Any questions, please see me, Phil McIndoe!
Thanks for your support Reporoa Whanau! 🙂
