Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa – warm greetings to everyone
Welcome to week 1 of term 2. I trust you all had a wonderful break and managed to spend some quality time enjoying your children. I also hope that the flooding has not impacted too harshly on your homes or farms!
Change:
This term our concept inquiry is about changes in matter. We will be getting very scientific as we explore changes from one state to another. We had a visit from a ‘mad scientist’ in assembly where we made slime! Very exciting!
Professional Learning:
Staff spent the first two days of the holidays doing some pretty full on learning. Monday was self review with teachers, teacher aides, and BOT members. Tuesday was an ‘Understanding Behaviour, Responding Safely’ course. We were hosts to Rererwhaakaitu and Mihi school teachers and teacher aides. What a committed group of professionals we have!
Visitors on school grounds:
Please note that anyone (including parents) that visit the school are to sign in at the office. We have a new digital sign in service. Maureen will be more than happy to show you how to use it.
Also, please remember that you MUST sign your child out at the office and give a reason if you are picking them up early.
Stars of the week:
Ka Rawe te mahi (awesome work) to our bronze tag owners who had morning tea with me on the last day of the term, and to Carlos for some quality writing this week!
Thank You…
to all of you who helped out at the 100k flyer as a marshal. This is an important fundraiser for our school and we appreciate your support!
Sports:
Kia ora Whanau!
I hope you’ve all had a well rested break! This term will be a busy one with sports! This Friday 4th May we have 27 children participating in the Rotorua Mini Marathon! We wish you all the best! 🙂
This year we have one Senior Netball Team that will be coached by Henessey’s Mum, Belinda. They have their first training this Thursday 3rd May after school and first game on Saturday. The Reporoa School is behind you! Good luck girls!
At the moment we have two basketball teams, one senior and one middle’s team. Tyrone’s Mum Crystal will be coaching the senior team and I will be coaching the middles’s team. Crystal will hold trainings at the Reporoa College Gym on Sundays, I will hold trainings for the Middles during the lunchtime, weekdays. The Seniors have their first training with Crystal this Thursday 3rd May.
We start basketball next Friday.
This week we had a School Trial for the Rippa Rugby Tournament. We had 28 children turn up to trial! We have now selected our two teams, 1 senior and 1 middle’s. Justin Phillips and I will be training the teams during lunchtimes, trainings to be announced.
At this stage our cross country has been sketched in for Wednesday 16th May. This gives us a few weeks to train for the clusters. Classes have been out training the children daily, which as parents, you could send your child out for a run too. What we do is, we set a course, and time how many laps they do within an allotted time. We then watch how our fitness increases and more laps are accomplished. You could do the same!
REP WHANAU vs REP TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
Every Friday we will have a fun game, students and teachers v’s whanau. Next Friday 11th will be our first game and it’s …. Netball! If you’d like to play please email me so I can ensure we have a parent team. My email is [email protected]. Every week we will change the game. Whanau team will be announced via Facebook early next week. If you wish to ref please let me know. Thanks!
Wow! Lots going on! Any questions, please see me, Phil McIndoe!
Thanks for your support Reporoa Whanau! 🙂
